Women's Tennis Rounds Out Day One in Ojai

Ojai, Calif. - UCLA's Alex McGoodwin, Tracy Lin and Elizabeth Lumpkin each won first round singles matches Thursday at the 2005 Pac-10 Championships.
McGoodwin was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Washington's Tara Simpson before falling in the second round to USC's Anca Anastasiu. Lin upset Washington's top player Dea Sumantri, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the first round. She was beaten by Stanford's Theresa Logar, 6-2, 7-5 in the next round. UCLA's only other entrant in the main draw was Laura Gordon, who fell in the first round to ASU's Sabrina Capannolo, 7-5, 6-3.
In the Pac-10 Invitational Draw, Lumpkin was a 7-6, 6-3 first-round winner over Washington's Allison Rainey. She fell in the second round to Cal's Tiffany Lee. Anya Loncaric and Amber Ray were defeated in opening-round action.
With no more singles players left in either draw, the Bruins will turn their attention to doubles play which begins Friday. Complete draws can be accessed at www.ojaitourney.org.
