
UCLA Falls to LMU, 6-1

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Loyola Marymount only outhit UCLA 7-6 but the Lions outscored the Bruins 6-1 as LMU claimed victory Tuesday night in non-conference action at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Bruin right-hander Adam Simon (1-5) tossed an impressive 5.2 innings in his sixth start of the year despite suffering the defeat.
UCLA falls to 13-36 while LMU improves to 26-25.
James Cooper and Evan Shahak both contributed two RBI for the Lions. Cooper was 3-for-4.
Sean Carpenter was 3-for-4 with a double for the Bruins. LMU took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when third baseman Kyle Mura singled home Cooper from second. Then in the sixth, Shahak's two-RBI double gave the Lions all they would need.
UCLA scored its only run in the seventh as Brett McMillan's sacrifice fly brought home Chris Jensen from third.
Left-hander Daniel Macias improved to 1-2 as the LMU hurler allowed just the one run off four hits over 6.1 innings pitched.
Right-hander Scott Botterman pitched 2.1 innings of relief for UCLA, allowing just one run on one hit.
