The UCLA men's volleyball team fell 3-0 to UC Irvine in the MPSF opener for both teams at Irvine on Friday night.
The Anteaters won 32-30, 30-28, 30-24 in one hour and 24 minutes in front of 865 fans. The victory raised the Anteaters' record to 4-1, 1-0 in league play, while the Bruins fell to 2-2, 0-1.
Junior Paul George recorded a team-high of 14 kills, four total blocks and 17 points. Senior Damien Scott added 11 kills (.320) and freshman Sean O'Malley tallied 10 kills (.316) and nine digs. Sophomore Tony Ker led the Bruins with 11 kills.
Matt Webber led UCI with 23 kills (.341).
In team statistics, UCI edged UCLA in blocking, nine to eight, and in serving six aces to zero. The Anteaters outhit the Bruins .331 to .301.
Next week the Bruins will travel to the 12th Annual Outrigger Invitational and play Ohio State (Jan. 18), Penn State (Jan. 19) and Hawai'i (Jan. 20).
