In 1925 Yankee first baseman Wally Pipp took a day off because of a headache and, though he had been the Bronx Bombers first sacker for ten seasons, he never returned to the lineup. He was replaced by the great Lou Gehrig who went on to play in 2,130 straight games over the next 14 seasons.

Last Saturday UCLA starting QB Ben Olson went down with a tear of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee. He will be out 4 to 6 weeks. His replacement, Pat Cowan, completed 20 of 29 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns on the way to a 27-7 Bruin victory over Arizona. Cowan will make his first start this weekend at 18th-ranked Oregon. The game starts at 12:30 on ABC on the west coast.
