Greetings from Westwood! From time to time we will be sending you updates such as this on the names and faces making news in the sports world on behalf of UCLA. Whether it's the induction of 8 all-time great student-athletes into the Hall of Fame this Friday or a word of caution on traffic delays you may encounter on your way to the Rose Bowl this Saturday, our intent is both to entertain and inform you of the many positive developments coming from UCLA. We hope that you will enjoy reading about the exploits of our student-athletes both on and off the playing field and that these stories will help you to remember just who ultimately benefits from the support that you provide.
This Saturday the Bruins look to avenge last year's devastating loss when the Arizona Wildcats come to town for a 4 p.m. kickoff. Beating Arizona will give UCLA a second-straight Pac-10 win and some good momentum heading into tough road contests with Oregon and Notre Dame. If you're planning to attend the game, please be aware that the Dodgers playoff game against the Mets will start at either 1 p.m. or 4 p.m.. We're also duty-bound to remind you that the Washington Huskies and some other school in LA have a 12:30 p.m. kickoff. So, if you're coming North on the 110 Freeway on your way to the Rose Bowl, please leave early or select an alternate route since traffic could be impacted significantly by those events.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm" and thus far our student-athletes have shown enthusiasm in abundance. Our young football team has shown promise in staking themselves to a 3-1 start. The men's soccer team is currently ranked 11th nationally while their counterparts on the women's side are rated fourth nationally. The women's volleyball team is 15-0 and ranked third nationally while the men's water polo team is also ranked third . . . And there's more to come!
When you joined the "UCLA Family" through your generous corporate support, we applauded the wisdom of your decision. Now it's your turn.
Please feel free to contact Adam, Greg, Peter or myself if we can assist you in any way.
Happy reading!
Tom Davis
