No. 25 Pepperdine Upsets No. 15 UCLA, 4-3 in Malibu

Malibu, Calif. -The No. 15 UCLA women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2006 season Saturday, falling to No. 25 Pepperdine, 4-3 at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu.
With the win, the Waves remained unbeaten on the season at 6-0, while UCLA dropped to 4-1 on the season.
Pepperdine won the doubles point after securing wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. No. 21 Bianca Dulgheru and Eva Dickes defeated Anna-Viktoria Lind and Alex McGoodwin 8-6 at court two and Natalie Braverman and Carolina Raba beat Tracy Lin and Ashley Joelson 9-8 (5).
The Waves kept rolling as No. 15 Dulgheru quickly beat Riza Zalameda 6-0, 6-2 to put Pepperdine ahead, 2-0. The Bruins fought back to tie the match after taking wins in the third and fourth positions. After losing in the first set, Sylvia Kosakowski forced her opponent to a third set, but was defeated by Laura Gordon 6-2, 5-7, 7-6. After Dickes defeated Joelson, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to tie the match at 3 points each, all eyes settled on the sixth court where senior Merve Asimgil began a third set against Lind. Asimgil's experience came into play as she took the lead without delay and never let up defeating Lind 6-2 in the third set to clinch the team victory.
Pepperdine has not defeated UCLA since 2001, when it went 2-0 against the Bruins that season.
UCLA returns to action next week, hosting No. 6 Cal on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and top-ranked Stanford on Saturday at Noon.
