
Bruins Fall to Waves in Four Games

The eighth-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team fell in four games on the road to Pepperdine Thursday night in an MPSF match for both teams.
The Waves won 30-21, 31-29, 26-30, 30-25 in two hours and seven minutes in front of 1,205 fans at Firestone Fieldhouse. The victory, Pepperdine's fourth straight over UCLA, raised its record to 13-4 overall and in league play. The Bruins fell to 12-12, 5-10.
Junior Steve Klosterman led the Bruins with 20 kills, followed by freshman Sean O'Malley's career-high of 12. Senior David Russell added nine kills (.389) and led the Bruins with five block assists. Freshman setter Matt Wade recorded 47 assists and added three kills (.429), an ace and six digs. Sophomore libero Tony Ker led the Bruins with 13 digs and junior Paul George added 10 to go along with eight kills.
In team statistics, the Bruins out-blocked the Waves, 9.5-6.0, but were out-hit 71 kills to 59 and .329 to .255. Both teams recorded four aces.
Four players recorded double-digit kill totals for Pepperdine: Paul Carroll (22), Tom Hulse (15), John Parfitt (12) and Jon Grobe (10).
The Bruins host the 29th Annual Kilgour Cup Fri., Mar. 17 vs. USC. UCLA also hosts George Mason on Sat., Mar. 18. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
