Joelson Reaches Singles Final at Ojai

Ojai, Calif. - UCLA freshman women's tennis player Ashley Joelson advanced to the Pac-10 Invitational singles final Saturday after posting a straight-set victory in her semifinal match at the Pac-10 Championships at Ojai's Libbey Park.
Joelson, the No. 2 seed in the Invitational draw, posted a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Cal's Claire Ilcinkas in the semifinals. Awaiting her in Sunday's final is Stanford's Jessica Nguyen, who downed Cal's Marion Ravelojaona, 6-1, 6-0. Joelson and Nguyen are scheduled to face off at Libbey Park beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Both of the Bruins' doubles teams dropped semifinal matches Saturday. Laura Gordon and Riza Zalameda lost to Cal's Suzi Babos/Suzi Fodor, 8-4 in the main draw. Joelson and Tracy Lin fell to Arizona State's Wendy Pilecka/Rebecca Rankin, 8-5 in the Invitational draw.
