Junior Jordan Schwikert (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial HS) of the UCLA gymnastics team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Feb. 26-Mar. 4.
Schwikert helped lead UCLA to a huge upset victory over second-ranked and two-time defending NCAA champion Georgia, 197.150-197.000. The team score was UCLA's highest of the season, and the win snapped Georgia's 27-meet, 57-opponent unbeaten streak (Georgia had not lost a meet since placing second at the 2005 NCAA Regionals). Schwikert scored a season-high 39.45 in the all-around in just her second all-around competition of the year, placing second. She earned season-high marks of 9.9 on vault to tie for second and 9.9 on floor to tie for third. She also added a 9.85 on beam and 9.8 on uneven bars. Schwikert's vault score of 9.9 helped the Bruins achieve a season-high 49.425 on that event, and her 9.9 on floor was instrumental to the Bruins holding onto their slim lead over Georgia in the final rotation.
This is Schwikert's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
