UCLA has won the 2006-07 Lexus Gauntlet Championship for the third time in the six-year history of the competition. UCLA clinched the competition on Wednesday afternoon when the women's golf team placed second at the Pac-10 championships in Eugene, OR, one spot ahead of USC.

Lexus will present the Gauntlet to UCLA during a special ceremony/press conference on Tuesday, May 15 at 11:30 a.m. on Spaulding Field.

UCLA now leads the competition, 67.5 - 22.5, with three other sports (men's track and field, women's track and field and women's rowing) competing on Saturday for five points each. It takes 57.5 points to win the 18-sport head-to-head competition outright.

UCLA registered 10 points in football, men's basketball and women's volleyball, five points each in women's soccer, women's cross-country, women's swimming and diving, baseball, women's water polo and women's golf and 2.5 points each in men's volleyball and men's and women's tennis.

After this weekend, the only sport remaining in the competition will be men's golf - a head-to-head match on May 14. There could also be post-season meetings in men's and women's tennis and women's water polo that could affect the final score.

In six years of the competition, UCLA and USC have alternated winning the Lexus Gauntlet trophy. The Bruins captured the rivalry's crown jewel in 2003 and 2005, while the Trojans won the challenge in 2002, 2004 and 2006.
