UCLA is currently second in competition for the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup, based on the first set of spring standings released today.

UCLA jumped from 12th in the final winter standings to second in the current spring standings with 952.00 points. The Bruins took home their 100th NCAA Tournament championship with its women's water polo title this spring. UCLA also finished second in women's tennis, third in women's golf and fifth (tied) in men's tennis.

Competition is still ongoing in five of 13 spring NCAA Championships, including baseball, men's and women's outdoor track and field, men's golf and softball. UCLA is expected to earn points in all five of those championships.

Stanford is leading the competition, followed by UCLA, California, North Carolina and USC.

The U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Alabama, is the program's sponsor. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports - 10 women's and 10 men's.

UCLA placed second in 2005-06 and third in both 2003-04 and 2004-05.
