Several of you have asked what the logo on the back of our football helmets signifies, and also why the "C" in the north end zone at the Rose Bowl is blue when the rest of the letters are gold. Both items are a part of UCLA's year-long celebration of being the first school to win 100 NCAA championships. The logo on the back of the helmets is the official "First to 100" logo which you've seen around campus, on our web site and in our publications. The "C" is reversed because "C" is the Roman number for 100. A subtle change designed to elicit questions and to honor the student-athletes who have built the UCLA tradition. As other sports get underway, you'll notice that the "C" on our jerseys will also be reversed when the team uses block lettering on its uniform. Men's basketball will likely be the most prominent example of that.
In addition to these items, UCLA is honoring members of its 100 national championship teams at halftime of football and men's basketball games this season. This Saturday's honorees represent seven UCLA title teams, highlighted by Olympians Mohini Bhardwaj Barry and Rafer Johnson. The reps are listed below:
