As a part of UCLA's nine-month long celebration honoring the "First to 100" , a student-athlete and/or coach from each of the 100 NCAA Championship teams will be honored at halftime of all home football and men's basketball games during the 2007-08 campaign. This Saturday, six additional teams will be recognized. Those guests will be:
#27 - 1972 Men's Track & Field (John Smith)
#41 - 1982 Men's Swim & Dive (Brandon Day, Robin Leamy and Coach Ron Ballatore)
#46 - 1983 Men's Volleyball (Steve Gulnac)
#59 - 1988 Softball (Lisa Longaker Hadfield)
#60 - 1988 Men's Track & Field (Eric Bergreen and Danny Everett )
#89 - 2003 Women's Water Polo (Robin Beauregard)
Throughout the course of this celebration, there will be a few subtle changes to recognize our celebration and elicit questions. A few of those changes include the official "First to 100" logo being placed on the back of our football helmets, as well as the reverse color "C" in the north end zone at the Rose Bowl. The "C" is reversed because "C" is the Roman number for 100. As other sports get underway, you will notice that the "C" on our jerseys will also be reversed when the team uses block lettering on its uniform. Men's Basketball will likely be the most prominent example of that.
