BERKELEY, Calif - The No. 3 UCLA men's water polo team registered a 7-5 victory over No. 6 Pepperdine in overtime Saturday in the NorCal Tournament. UCLA advances to the semifinal round and will play No. 2 California on Sunday at 12 p.m.
Junior Krsto Sbutega tallied two goals to lead the Bruins (6-0). Earlier in the day, Sbutega registered three goals in UCLA's 15-4 win over Santa Clara.
UCLA and Pepperdine (9-2) traded goals throughout the contest, as UCLA and Pepperdine reached halftime with a 2-2 deadlock. Each team added one goal in the third quarter and finished regulation with a 5-5 tie.
The Bruins scored twice in the first three-minute overtime session and held on for the 7-5 win. Sophomore goalkeeper Chay Lapin tallied five saves in the cage for UCLA.
