LOS ANGELES - The fourth-ranked UCLA men's tennis team won a tight doubles point before cruising in singles play on Friday, as the Bruins took a 6-1 victory over No. 31 Cal on at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. With the win, UCLA improves its record to 16-1 overall and 3-0 in the Pac-10. The Golden Bears fall to 10-8 and 2-1 in conference action.

After both teams split doubles matches at the top two courts, UCLA's Michael Look and Jeremy Drean won a crucial match at court No. 3 to give the Bruins the point. The Bruin tandem upped its record to 16-1 on the season, breaking Cal's Jonathan Dahan/Bozhidar Katsarov in the final game for an 8-6 victory.

Riding the momentum from a thrilling doubles victory, UCLA cruised in singles play, winning three straight matches to quickly clinch the match.

Look quickly gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead as, after taking the first set 6-2 at court No. 4, his opponent, Dahan, was forced to retire due to injury. That win was followed by No. 38 Harel Srugo at court No. 1, as his 6-2, 6-2 win over No. 92 Kallim Stewart put the Bruins up 3-0.

Freshman Nick Meister clinched the match for UCLA at court No. 6, posting a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Katsarov.

Senior Mathieu Dehaine and freshman Holden Seguso had a little more trouble in their singles matches Friday, but ended up coming out on top in the end. Dehaine needed a 10-point tiebreaker in place of a third set to defeat Pierre Mouillon, 5-7, 6-3, (10-4) at court No. 2, while Seguso survived a marathon first-set tiebreaker to eventually down Eoin Heavey, 7-6(13), 6-4.

UCLA returns to action tomorrow, hosting No. 25 Stanford beginning at 1:00 p.m.
