Final Stats

The UCLA men's volleyball team won its first league opener in three years by beating Stanford in four games Friday night in Pauley Pavilion.

The Bruins won 30-19, 24-30, 30-24, 30-18 in one hour and 45 minutes before 938 fans. The victory raised UCLA's overall record to 3-1, 1-0 in MPSF play. Stanford fell to 2-1, 0-1.

Junior setter Matt Wade started and finished the match for the Bruins, distributing 52 assists and directing an offense that hit .372. Wade added two kills (.500) and three block assists for 3.5 points. He spread the ball around to hitters Garrett Muagututia (15 kills, .345, two aces, four block assists, 19 points), Brett Perrine (12 kills, .308, four total blocks, 14.5 points) and Jamie Diefenbach (12 kills, .750, seven total blocks, 16 points).

Tony Ker dug 15 balls to lead all players and Muagututia added 11.

Evan Romero led the Cardinal with 22 kills and 23.5 points.

UCLA hosts Pacific on Sat., Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
