
Bruins Defeat 49ers in First Match of SAC Tournament

UCLA and Cal State Northridge were winners in the first round of competition at the 3rd Annual SAC Tournament Friday on the UCLA campus.
UCLA defeated Long Beach State, 30-19, 30-16, 30-20 on the main court and CS Northridge swept UC Santa Barbara, 30-20, 30-27, 30-21 on the other court.
Senior Sean O'Malley led the Bruins with 13 kills, followed by Garrett Muagututia and Weston Dunlap with 12 apiece. Setter Kevin Ker torched the 49ers for seven aces, and freshman Kyle Caldwell added four. The Bruins recorded a dozen aces in the match.
Dean Bittner led the 49ers with 15 kills.
Statistics were not immediately available for the CS Northridge-UCSB match.
Action continues Saturday with doubleheaders for all teams. At 10 a.m., UCLA meets UCSB and CSUN plays Long Beach State. At 3 p.m. UCLA hosts CSUN and Long Beach State meets UCSB.
All matches will be held at the Student Activities Center (SAC) on the UCLA campus and admission is free.
