
UCLA Rowing's Varsity Four Finishes First on Day One of Pac-10 Challenge

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. - The No. 13-ranked UCLA women's rowing team raced to two first-place finishes on day one of the 2008 Pac-10 Challenge in Redwood Shores, Calif. The Bruins' V4+ boat cruised past Ohio State in the morning and Notre Dame in the afternoon, highlighting UCLA's seven races on the day.
Facing several top-15 ranked programs, UCLA's V4+ boat posted a time of 8:21.28 against Ohio State, who crossed the finish line at 8:22.44. Ohio State bested UCLA in the morning's varsity 8+ and second varsity 8+ races.
Also in the morning portion of the day's events, Virginia cruised past UCLA in the novice 8+ race.
In the afternoon, the Bruins were edged by 2.10 seconds in the second varsity 8+ race against Notre Dame. UCLA's varsity 4+ raced past the Fighting Irish by more than 13 seconds in the afternoon, capping the Bruins' first day on the water in the 2008 Pac-10 Challenge.
