Senior Ingrid Kantola upped her season-best mark in the pole vault to 13-5.25 on Saturday as she competed in the "A" section of the vault at the Texas Relays in Austin. Kantola, who won the "B" section on Friday, was invited into the top section and was the Bruins' top finisher as she placed fourth with her season-best clearance.
Freshman Tori Anthony finished tied for sixth with a mark of 12-7.50, while former Bruin and NCAA champion Chelsea Johnson won the event with a clearance of 14-7.25.
In Palo Alto at the Stanford Invitational, sophomore Krishna Curry placed eighth in the 400m in a time of 56.80, while freshman Cobbie Jones finished 33rd overall (59.92) in the quarter-mile race. Junior Lauren Jirges finished 18th in the 1500m in a time of 4:33.24, while junior Olga Aulet-Leon placed 42nd (4:40.37). The distance runners also ran a 4x400m relay team which placed 10th in a time of 3:57.70.
Today's pole vault competition marks the final event for the Bruin women at the Texas Relays. The vaulters will return to rejoin the team next weekend as UCLA hosts the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational April 10-12.
