Eighth-ranked UCLA fell in five games to No. 7 Long Beach State Wednesday night at the Pyramid in a key MPSF match for both teams.
The Beach won 24-30, 30-24, 28-30, 30-22, 17-15 in two hours and 14 minutes in front of 816 spectators. The 49ers raised their overall record to 3-2, 2-0 in MPSF play; the Bruins fell to 2-4, 1-2.
Junior Garrett Muagututia led the Bruins with a season-high of 21 kills (.300), followed by eight kills from Brett Perrine.
The Bruins hit .157 for the match, as the 49ers recorded 21 blocks. The Beach hit .252, led by Tom Pestolesi's match-high 25 kills (.413)
On Friday, Jan. 23, UCLA hosts UC San Diego at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
