
Bruins Fall in Four to Matadors at UCSB Invitational

Second-ranked UCLA fell in four games to No. 5 Cal State Northridge Friday in the opening match of the 45th Annual UCSB Collegiate Invitational.
The Matadors won, 24-30, 30-26, 30-18, 30-21 in 106 minutes. The victory was CS Northridge's third straight against UCLA, dating to last season. The Matadors raised their record to 1-0; the Bruins fell to 0-1.
Northridge kept UCLA on its heels with pinpoint serving, acing the Bruins 12 times and taking advantage of their inexperienced passing. The Bruins hit just .130, making 26 errors in 108 attempts. CS Northridge hit .264.
Junior Brett Perrine led the Bruins with 11 kills, followed by 10 kills from freshman Kyle Caldwell. Sophomore Weston Dunlap led the Bruins with seven blocks.
All-American Eric Vance led CS Northridge with 21 kills (.372).
The Bruins will meet Pacific, a 3-1 loser to UCSB, at 7 p.m. tonight.
