
Bruins Win Two of Three in SAC Tournament

In the final matches of the UCLA-hosted SAC Tournament Saturday afternoon, the Bruins defeated Cal State Northridge in four games and Cal Baptist upended UC Santa Barbara 3-1.
UCLA won 30-27, 30-22, 28-30, 30-26 in 104 minutes.
Senior Garrett Muagututia led both teams with 20 kills (.430), followed by 15 from sophomore Jack Polales and 20 from Dylan Bowermaster.
The Bruins hit .310 and the Matadors hit .270.
Theo Edwards led the Matadors with 18 kills and Jack Ratajczak added 13.
On the other court, Cal Baptist won its first match of the tournament, upsetting previously unbeaten UC Santa Barbara, 16-30, 30-24, 30-24, 30-21.
In morning matches, the Bruins lost in five to the Gauchos and the Matadors beat the Lancers in four.
UCSB beat UCLA 30-22, 23-30, 21-30, 30-19, 15-9.
Kill leaders for the Bruins were sophomore Nick Vogel with 16, freshman Jonathan Bridgeman with 14 and sophomore Weston Dunlap with 13. The Bruins served eight aces but were hampered by 24 service errors, including several in Game 5. Overall, UCLA recorded 65 kills and hit better than 34%.
CS Northridge defeated Cal Baptist, 30-24, 31-33, 30-22, 30-22.
Following a break for final exams in mid-December, the Bruins will resume practice after the Christmas holiday and host Winnipeg on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion. Admission and parking for that match are free.
