Trent Perez is in good contention to pick up UCLA's first points of the Pac-10 Track and Field Championships as he stands in sixth-place after day one of the decathlon competition.
The freshman had a very impressive day as he had season-best performances in four of the five events contested, ending the day with a season-best day one score of 3423 points.
Perez started the day off with a PR in the 100m, running the seventh-fastest time of the day (11.36/782 points). In the long jump, he posted another season-best with a mark of 21-2.50 for 688 points. A third season-best came in the shot put as he had a mark of 29-8 (428 points). In the high jump, he tied for sixth with a clearance of 679 points. Perez ended the day with a PR in the 400m, running 49.33 for 846 points.
Competition continues on Sunday with the high hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500m.
