UCLA student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom and on the playing fields.
In the 2009 Fall Quarter, completed in mid-December, 233 UCLA student-athletes earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. To make the Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a grade-point average of at least 3.0 and pass at least 12 quarter units.
Of the 233 student-athletes who earned a spot on the Director's Honor Roll, 78 compiled a grade-point average of at least 3.5 and 12 earned a perfect 4.0.
"The success of our student-athletes is very important to everyone associated with the UCLA Athletic Department," said Dr. Christina Rivera, Assistant Athletic Director - Academic and Student Services. "We are extremely proud of their accomplishments in the classroom - it is a tribute to their hard work and competitive nature. We also want to thank our coaches, academic support staff, faculty and University administration for their support of our academic endeavors."
Women's rowing led all teams with 35 members of the Director's Honor Roll, followed by football (21), women's swimming and diving (20), men's track & field/cross country (19), men's soccer (17), baseball (13) and men's water polo, women's gymnastics and women's track and field/cross country (12 each).
On the field of competition, UCLA finished the Fall season ranked No. 3 in the standings for the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings. The Bruins placed second nationally in men's water polo, third (tied) in women's soccer, fifth (tied) in men's soccer and 17th (tied) in women's volleyball. UCLA also earned points for winning the EagleBank Bowl, one of just two Pac-10 schools to win its bowl game.
