No. 12 UCLA Beats Tulsa, 4-1 at ITA Kick-Off Weekend

LOS ANGELES - The No. 12 UCLA women's tennis team earned a spot in next month's ITA National Team Indoor Championships on Saturday, as the Bruins notched a 4-1 victory over Tulsa in a second round match during ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
UCLA's Stephanie Hoffpauir and Maya Johansson set the tone for the Bruins in doubles, posting an 8-0 victory in their match at court No. 3. UCLA then secured the point when No. 10 Andrea Remynse and Yasmin Schnack downed JoAnne Karaitiana/Alexandra Kichoutkin, 8-2 at court No. 1.
Schnack, who is ranked fifth in the nation, would get Kichoutkin again in singles, cruising to 6-1, 6-1 victory to give UCLA a 2-0 lead. Junor Noelle Hickey was also impressive on the day, losing just three games in a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Anastasia Erofeeva at court No. 3.
With UCLA up 3-0, Tulsa got on the board when Ewa Szatkkowska downed sophomore Carling Seguso, 6-3, 6-4 at court No. 4.
Freshman Pamela Montez then clinched the win for the Bruins with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Rebecca Row at court No. 5, making the score 4-1 UCLA. Remynse actually had two match points up 6-0, 5-1 over Karaitiana at court No. 2 when play was suspended.
UCLA returns to the LATC next week, hosting UC Irvine on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
