LOS ANGELES - The No. 9 UCLA women's soccer team surrendered an early goal and was never able to answer, as Pepperdine pulled off a 1-0 upset over the Bruins at Drake Stadium on Friday evening. With the win, the Waves (7-3-2) snap the nation's longest home unbeaten streak at 73 matches. The Bruins (7-3-1) had not lost a game at home since falling to Penn State, 2-1 in double-overtime on Sept. 5, 2005.

Pepperdine's goal came at the 22:58 mark when Michelle Spacciapolli slid a pass over to Michelle Manning near the top of the box. Manning moved the ball to her left before unleashing a hooking left-footed shot into the upper-right corner. Bruin goalkeeper Chante' Sandiford reached up for the ball, however it was placed too perfectly.

UCLA, which owned a 10-8 advantage in the final shot count, had several quality chances to equalize throughout the match. Zakiya Bywaters, who had a game-high three shots, and Jenna Richmond constantly had Pepperdine goalkeeper Roxanne Barker under pressure but neither player could find the back of the net.

It marked the third match in a row that UCLA has been without leading scorer Sydney Leroux, who is still in camp with the U.S. Women's National Team in Kennesaw, Ga.

Friday marked the Bruins' final non-conference match of the regular season, as UCLA is set to open up Pac-10 play at home next weekend. The Bruins host Cal on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and top-ranked Stanford on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
