The UCLA Athletic Performance Center has unveiled a significant renovation and remodel that took place over the winter break. Student-athletes returned in January to find an incredible new space to train in thanks to a generous donation by Stephen Bing and Andy and Shannon Meyers. Andy was an All-Pac-10 offensive guard during his Bruin career (1995-98) and started for teams that won 20 consecutive games.

The new training center features the following:

  • 31 flat screen televisions, including a 103-inch plasma screen
  • 27 new Powerlift platforms and racks
  • 6 Powerlift standing neck machines
  • 6 Lat pull/row combo machines
  • 2 unilateral leg press machines
  • 6 full sets of kettle bells
  • A state-of-the-art media center
  • Custom up-down lighting

Each platform has a flat-screen television that will broadcast the workout content. The larger flat screens will feature highlight videos of student-athletes training and competing in their respective sports. There are also several flat screens above the stationary bike area which will be running sports programming throughout the day. The Powerlift Standing Neck Machines are a prototype that was made specifically for UCLA and are one-of-a-kind (neck machines are usually used in the seated position).

"We are so thankful for Stephen, Andy and Shannon's incredible donation," said Head Athletic Performance Coach Mike Linn. "With their help, we have made huge upgrades to the facility and are right on par with the best training centers in the conference. The student-athletes were overwhelmed and excited when they returned from winter break to see all of the changes. The football players were that much more excited to get started on their off-season training. With these kinds of upgrades, we are showing our student-athletes that we are invested in improving their performance on all levels."
