Junior Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs (Toronto, ON/Northview Heights Secondary) of the UCLA gymnastics team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Feb. 28-Mar. 6.
Hopfner-Hibbs won the all-around at Cal State Fullerton, scoring 39.5 to record her third 39.5+ score of the season and her third all-around win. She also won beam with a 9.925 despite competing second in the lineup and tied for first on vault with a career-high tying 9.95. Additionally, she placed second on floor with a 9.875 and tied for fifth on bars with a 9.75. Her vault score helped lead UCLA to a season-high 49.575 on the event, the Bruins' highest vault score since Feb. 22, 2009 at Nebraska. Her overall scores contributed to a season-high away score of 197.05. Hopfner-Hibbs leads UCLA with 15 individual victories on the year.
This is Hopfner-Hibbs' first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and second of her career.
