Men's Volleyball wins Outrigger Hotels Invitational

For the sixth time in eleven appearances, the UCLA men's volleyball team won the Outrigger Hotels Invitational by defeating the Hawaii Warriors 3-0. They last won the title back in 2002.
The Bruins are now 5-1 heading into conference play on Wednesday and are off to their best start since 2008. They have also now won an astonishing 28 of 32 matches all-time at the tournament. Game scores from tonight were 25-19, 25-14, 25-21.
UCLA got out to a fast start led by Weston Dunlap's four block assists in the first set. After taking the first set 25-19, the Bruins never let up and went on to sweep Hawaii in three games. Dunlap led the team with 10 kills while junior setter Alex Scattareggia had a game-high five block assists.
Junior outside hitter Jeremy Casebeer was a key contributor for the Bruins once again, with 9 kills and 6 digs. Casebeer also hit .571 and has established himself as the most consistent player for the Bruins so far. Junior Thomas Amberg and freshman Gonzalo Quiroga followed him with 6 and 5 kills respectively.
Overall, the Bruins hit .329 and capitalized on 22 attack errors by the Warriors. Brennon Dyer and Steven Hunt led Hawaii with 6 kills apiece.
Casebeer and Dunlap were named to the All-Tournament Team for their efforts in all three matches. Casebeer ended up with 26 kills, 9 block assists and 1 ace while Dunlap notched 28 kills and 10 block assists for the tournament. Penn State outside hitter Joe Sunder was named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.
UCLA opens conference play on Wednesday, January 19th against the Cal State Northridge Matadors at 7:00 in Pauley Pavilion.
