No. 7 UCLA Breezes to 7-0 Win over UCI

LOS ANGELES - The No. 7 UCLA women's tennis team dispatched of visiting UC Irvine, 7-0 on Wednesday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. After suffering two losses in the Bay Area last weekend, the Bruins improve to 5-2 on the year. With the loss, the Anteaters fall to 1-3 overall.
UCLA posted wins at all three doubles courts to take the doubles point on Wednesday. After a pair of 8-2 victories at court Nos. 2 and 3, the Bruins notched the final win of doubles at court No. 1, where Noelle Hickey and Nina Pantic edged Courtney Byron and Becka Kwan, 8-7(0). Hickey and Pantic fought off four match points in the final game prior to the tiebreaker.
The Bruins then cruised in singles play, taking five of the six matches in straight sets. After Courtney Dolehide (court No. 4) and Andrea Remynse (court No. 2) posted wins in their respective matches, Hickey clinched the win for the Bruins at court No. 1, notching a 6-2, 6-0 win over Byron to give UCLA a 4-0 lead.
McCall Jones, who has played at the No. 1 spot for UCLA all season, was not available on Wednesday due to illness.
The Anteaters won their only set of the day at court No. 5, where Brooke Schweyer suffered a 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 loss to Bruin junior Carling Seguso.
UCLA returns to action next Monday, hosting Cal Poly at 1:30 p.m.
