The eighth-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team swept Cal State Northridge Wednesday night at the Matadome.
The Bruins (10-9, 5-8) won 26-24, 27-25, 25-23. The unranked Matadors fell to 4-12, 3-9. The sweep was the Bruins' second against the Matadors this season.
The Bruins rallied from a 7-1 deficit in set three to tie the score 16-16 on an ace by freshman Matt Hanley. They edged ahead 18-16 on a kill by freshman Gonzalo Quiroga and a block by junior Nick Vogel, who started. Following a timeout, CS Northridge scored three straight points to take a 19-18 lead. The score see-sawed until the Bruins took a 23-21 lead on a kill by junior Weston Dunlap and a ball handling error by the Matadors. At 24-23, Vogel sealed the victory with a kill.
Junior opposite Kyle Caldwell led the Bruins with 11 kills (.300) and 12 points, followed by Dunlap's 10 kills and 11.5 points. Vogel recorded eight kills (.800) and led the team with five block assists.
The Bruins hit .375 and limited the Matadors to an attack percentage of .250. UCLA also enjoyed a 48-39 advantage in total kills.
The Bruins will host Long Beach State on Fri., Mar. 4 at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
