Three Bruin men are in scoring position after day one of the Pac-10 Decathlon Championships in Tucson, AZ. Dominic Giovannoni, Marcus Nilsson and Trent Perez stand in third, fourth and sixth-place respectively after five events.

Giovannoni, who scored 7192 points to win the RJ/JJK Invite decathlon crown in April, is poised to set a new lifetime-best after a solid first day of competition in which he posted a new personal-best of 3804 points for day one of the 10 event competition.

The sophomore was third in both the 100m (11.12/834 points) and long jump (22-11.75/814 points) as both marks were lifetime-bests. Perez was fifth in both the 100m (11.24/808 points) and long jump (22-3.50/764 points) as both marks were lifetime-bests. He then finished 15th in the shot put with a mark of 33-7.50 (501 points).
