The #2-ranked UCLA Men's Golf Team roared out to first in their second day of the The Prestige at PGA West on Tuesday, before finally seeing their round suspended due to darkness after 15 holes. It seemed the sunset over La Quinta, CA, was the only thing that could stop the Bruins, as they shot three under to slide into the top spot ahead of #4 Washington, who shot 281 (-3) on the day to bring their 36-hole total to 565 (-3).

Only two Bruins were left unfinished by the end of the day, but the duo in question were on fire. Senior Pontus Widegren shot even through 15, and fellow senior Pedro Figueiredo was a blistering four under par on the day with three holes left to play. Jay Hwang improved on his first day total by three strokes to card a 69 (-2) and Jake Knapp shot 74 (+3). Manav Shah recorded a 76 (+5) to round out the team scoring.

With several teams playing catch-up from a delayed first round, it made sense that a few squads were still in action as play was suspended once more, and this time it was UCLA, Texas Tech, and #16 Oklahoma State with three holes left to play as time was called. #10 USC, after starting the tourney in second, shot 294 (+10) as a team to slide back into fourth at 573 (+5). #15 TCU also had a tough day, dropping from first in eighth after shooting 304 (+20) as a team. Their other Texas rivals showed up, as the unranked Texas Tech Raiders notched the third lowest score of the round through 15 holes to move into third. Teams playing through the delay have had difficulty, so UCLA will need another strong performance to retain their lead and capture their second consecutive trophy.

The final round is Wednesday Feb. 20th. You can follow the tournament action here.
