The No. 3 ranked UCLA Men's Golf team begins an action-packed week today, as the team will split up and head in different directions to play in two concurrent tournaments. One half of the Bruins ten-man roster will head north to Oregon to compete in the Bandon Dunes Championship. The other five Bruins will head east to Las Vegas, in preparation for Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters. Both tournaments will run on the same days, from Friday, March 8th, to Sunday the 10th.
The five-man team slated to compete in the Southern Highlands Masters features a wide breadth of experience. Seniors Pedro Figueiredo and Pontus Widegren will be joined by two more players with two-plus years of experience in junior Anton Arboleda and redshirt sophomore Manav Shah. Rounding out that particular squad will be freshman Jonathan Garrick. The tourney will be played at the Southern Highlands Golf Club, in Las Vegas, NV, and features a loaded set of teams, such as #1 California, #2 Alabama, #5 Texas, #6 New Mexico, #7 Georgia Tech, and #9 USC.
By comparison, the group headed north will be particularly young. Sophomores Jay Hwang, Matt Pinizzotto, and Preston Valder will team up with freshmen Lorens Chan and Reilly McMahon for the Bandon Dunes Championship, hosted by Gonzaga University. The tournament will be played at the Old Macdonald course of the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, ranked by Golfweek as one of the top resort courses in America. The field features such Pac-12 foes as the No. 4 ranked University of Washington, the University of Oregon, and Washington State University.
With several tournament wins under UCLA's belt already, both teams will be hungry and looking for more. To check tee times for the Bandon Dunes Championship, click here. And for tee times at the Southern Highlands Championship, click here.
