2002 — Breakthrough junior campaign in track … Burgess qualified for the 800m at the USA and NCAA Outdoor meets … On May 4 in UCLA's dual win over USC at Drake Stadium, Burgess set the school 800m record (since broken by Lena Nilsson, 2:02.26, 8/13/02) running a 2:03.73 and breaking the 28-year school record set by Francie Larrieu, 2:04.37, 1974 … At the Pac-10 meet, Burgess was second (2:03.91) in the 800m … Pac-10 Athlete of the Week (April 26) for leading a one-three Bruin sweep in the 800m (2:06.30) … At the NCAA Indoor, Burgess ran the first leg (1200m) on UCLA's winning distance medley relay (10:58.19, school record) and earned All-American honors on UCLA's 4 X 400m relay (third leg, 5th, 3:36.59) … Pac-10 Academic Honorable Mention in outdoor track and MPSF indoor track academic honors.
2001 — In cross country, Burgess helped the Bruin women qualify as a team to the NCAA Championships, running in the NCAA West Regional and NCAA Championship meets … In track, Burgess qualified for the NCAA Outdoor in the 800m and placed sixth (2:06.92) at the Pac-10 … Then personal-best 2:06.13 was No. 7 in school history (No. 30 on the 2001 U.
