Bruins Seventh after Round One at Cougar Classic

Law leads UCLA at three-under par.

UCLA sophomore Bronte Law led the Bruins Sunday in the first round of the Powerade Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Club in South Carolina.

The Bruins posted a team score of two-over par 290 and were in seventh place after the opening round, eight shots off the lead. Wake Forest took the first round lead at 282 (-6), following by Arkansas at 283 (-5). In third place was North Carolina State at 287 (-1), followed by Central Florida and Virginia in a fourth place tie at even par 288. One shot ahead of the Bruins in sixth place was Mississippi State at 289 (+1).

Law was one-under par through 16 holes before making birdies on her final two holes. She played the inward nine in three-under 33, and was tied for ninth place individually after her 69 (-3). Sophomore Alison Lee was one-over par through 14 holes, before holing birdies at the 15th and 18th holes for a 71 (-1), She was tied for 14th place. Junior Louise Ridderstrom was tied for 47th after posting a 74 (+2), freshman Erin Choi was tied for 57th after carding a 75 (+3), and senior Erynne Lee had the drop score of 76 (+4).

Wake Forest's Sierra Sims held the opening round lead after firing a 65 (-7).
