
No. 1 UCLA Defeats No. 20 St. Francis Brooklyn, 15-7

LOS ANGELES -- The No. 1 UCLA men's water polo team improved to 17-0 on the year with a 15-7 win over No. 20 St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday morning at Spieker Aquatics Center. The Bruins improve to 3-0 all-time against the Terriers, which dropped to 5-7 on the year.
Senior Paul Reynolds had a game-high four goals to lead the Bruins.
The Bruins jumped out to a 5-1 lead at the end of the first period. Reynolds struck first with a power play goal (6:53). Sophomore Ryder Roberts quickly made it 2-0 with another 6-on-5 goal (5:53). After a goal by St. Francis, junior Anthony Daboub responded with an exclusion goal (4:04) to put the Bruins up 3-1. Senior Cristiano Mirarchi made it 4-1 (2:39) with a goal from the front court and Daboub added his second man-up goal to end the first period scoring at 5-1 (0:40).
UCLA put four more up on the board in the second while shutting out the Terriers. Senior Christopher Meinhold opened the scoring with a power play strike to push the lead to 6-1 at the 6:39 mark of the second. Reynolds then added his second of the game, also on a power play, to make it 7-1 (2:38). Sophomore Gordon Marshall added a goal from two meters (:39) and Mirarchi added his second of the game (0:01) to end the period with the Bruins up 9-1 at the break.
The Bruins bettered St. Francis, 4-3, in the third period. Sophomore Alec Zwaneveld kicked things off for the Bruins on a power play (7:49). UCLA also received goals from Roberts, his second of the game (4:29) and Reynolds, his third and fourth of the contest (5:02, 0:47) to hand the Bruins a 13-4 lead at the end of three.
St. Francis Brooklyn won the fourth period, 3-2, to provide the 15-7 final. Freshman Alex Roelse (3:49) and Zwaneveld (0:43) each scored goals at full strength for UCLA in the fourth.
The Bruins were 6-for-13 on power plays while the Terriers were 2-for-8. Neither team attempted a penalty shot.
Senior Stephen White started in the cage for the Bruins and played the first half. Senior James Hartshorne relieved White in the second half in goal for UCLA. White surrendered one goal while registering four saves. Hartshorne allowed six goals while being credited with six saves. Zack Cleveland played the entire game for St. Francis Brooklyn allowing all 15 goals while making eight stops.
