No. 2 Women's Tennis Blanks Oregon, 4-0
March 29, 2014 | Women's Tennis
UCLA, which has claimed the doubles point in all 18 matches this season, took the 1-0 lead in the match with a pair of dominating wins. After Courtney Dolehide and Chanelle Van Nguyen notched an 8-2 win at court No. 3, top-ranked Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady clinched the point with a perfect performance against Nicole Long and Jasmin Minor at court No. 1, winning 8-0.
Things got worse for Oregon (7-10; 1-5 Pac-12) in singles play, as the Ducks were unable to field six healthy singles players, meaning that the Bruins immediately won by default at court No. 6 to take a 2-0 lead in the match. UCLA closed things out fairly quickly after that, getting a pair of convincing wins at court Nos. 4 and 3. First off was Catherine Harrison at court No. 4, as she downed Lina Akesson, 6-1, 6-0 to give UCLA a 3-0 lead. Freshman Jennifer Brady then notched a 6-1, 6-0 victory of her own, this time over Allie Hueffner at court No. 3, to give the Bruins the 4-0 victory.
UCLA's schedule gets much tougher next week, as the Bruins head to the Bay Area for matches against No. 5 Stanford (Friday) and No. 13 Cal (Saturday).
