No. 12 UCLA Rowing Finishes Strong at San Diego Crew Classic

The Bruins' two varsity eights, varsity four and novice eight all finished second in their respective heats on the first day of the San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay. UCLA's open eight crew raced to a first-place finish in the Bruins' final race of the afternoon.
UCLA's varsity eight finished second in the Bruins' first race of the day, posting a time of 6 minutes, 33.365 seconds, crossing the finish line just 3.672 seconds behind first-place Washington. UCLA logged better times than San Diego (6:37.065), Gonzaga (6:40.316) and Grand Valley (6:53.547).
The Bruins' varsity four boat registered a time of 7:29.908, finishing just four seconds behind first-place USC (7:25.777). UCLA crossed the finish line ahead of Iowa (7:35.634), Texas (7:38.617), Gonzaga (7:40.571), San Diego State (7:48.511) and Sacramento State (7:50.794).
UCLA's second varsity eight crossed the finish line in 6:41.987, nearly 3.3 seconds behind first-place Washington (6:38.758). UCLA's 2V8+ crew finished well ahead of third-place San Diego (6:55.632), Texas (6:57.075), San Diego State (7:06.601) and St. Mary's (7:12.560).
The Bruins' novice eight boat finished second behind Washington (6:50.557), posting a time of 6:59.411. San Diego (7:15.811) finished third, followed by Texas (7:16.473) and UC Santa Barbara (7:31.053).
In the program's final race of the day, UCLA's open eight crew raced to a first-place finish with a time of 7:19.659. The Bruins crossed the finish line ahead of Union BC (7:22.513), San Diego (7:34.802), San Diego State (7:41.001) and UC Santa Barbara (8:16.443).
