UCLA Finish Strong Showing at Big Ten Invitational

SACRAMENTO – The Bruins had a strong Sunday of racing to finish the two-day Big Ten Invitational in Sacramento this weekend.
UCLA claimed first place in the 1V8+, 1V4+ and 2V4+ Sunday morning and added a second-place result in the 2V8+ in the Bruins' first four races. The Bruins then swept the final three races, placing first in the 4V8+, 3V4+ and 3V8+ to wrap the weekend in Sacramento.
The Bruins were on the podium for all seven races in the first session of racing Saturday morning and early afternoon. The second varsity 8+ was neck-and-neck with Ohio State's shell, but the Buckeyes bested the Bruins by six tenths of a second. Fatigue set in for the second session of Saturday's races; the Bruins finished fourth in five of the seven flights during the late afternoon. The first and fourth varsity 8+ shells got back on the podium, with third- and second-place finishes in their respective second races.
