Golfers Tied for Fifth at NCAA San Antonio Regional

SAN ANTONIO, Tex -- Third-seeded UCLA was tied for fifth place following the first round of competition at the NCAA San Antonio Regional at Briggs Ranch GC.

The Bruins posted a team score of 290 (+2) and were tied with Texas Christian. First-place belonged to Georgia at seven-under par 281. The College of Charleston was second at 285 (-3), followed by Central Florida and SMU in a tie for third place at even par 288.

The top five teams will advance to the NCAA Championship in two weeks at Prarie Dunes in Hutchinson, Kan.

Sophomore Jonathan Garrick led the UCLA fivesome on Thursday with a round of 70 (-2) and was tied for fifth place. Sophomore Lorens Chan was tied for 15th place after carding a score of 72, and junior Preston Valder posted a 73 (+1) and was tied for 24th. Senior Anton Arboleda was tied for 44th after signing for a 75 (+3) and junior Matt Pinizzotto had the drop score of 76 (+4) and was tied for 57th.

Texas Christian's Julien Brun and SMU's Bryson Dechambeau were the 18-hole leaders. Each player fired a five-under par 67.
