In dance, exceptional choreography is honored through time as each generation of new dancers perform an homage to the original choreography. This season, several of UCLA's memorable routines are coming back to life via current team members as they pay tribute to legacy of UCLA Gymnastics.
Among these "legacy" routines are those done by Sadiqua Bynum, who asked to perform to Onnie Willis' sophomore year music, and Jennifer Pinches, who is recreating Lena Degteva's West Side Story routine.
"It's an honor for us to do the previous Bruin routines that were successful and amazing in the past," said Pinches. "It's like you've been deemed worthy enough to do this amazing choreography and performance."
"I love that we are calling these routines legacy routines because I feel that anything Val choreographs is iconic," said Degteva. "Every little piece she does is memorable, so it's just a perfect name."
