Roberts was the recipient of the SCSBA's best 'play-by-play' award for the second time in his career, having also been honored with the award in January 2013.
Serving as the Bruins' radio voice for his 23rd and final season this year, Roberts is a four-time Golden Mike Award Winner and a member of the SCSBA's Hall of Fame. He has broadcast more NCAA Division I games on Los Angeles Radio dating back to 1982 than anyone. With this being his final season as UCLA's voice, Roberts will equal Fred Hessler's mark for the longest tenured play-by-play man in UCLA history.
Roberts, who announced his impending retirement in May 2014, first signed on for the Bruins in the fall of 1992. He has served as the voice of UCLA football at the program's last 16 bowl games, including Rose Bowl appearances on January 1, 1994 and January 1, 1999. He has also broadcast UCLA men's basketball games in 18 trips to the NCAA Tournament during his tenure, most notably calling the Bruins' memorable run to the 1995 NCAA Tournament Championship that culminated in an 89-78 title-game victory over Arkansas at the Kingdome in Seattle.
The author of two books, Stadium Stories: UCLA Bruins and UCLA Football Vault, which he co-wrote with Bill Bennett, Roberts is now a two-time winner and nine-time nominee for the SCSBA's 'Play-by-Play Broadcaster of the Year Award.' He is also a voter for both the Heisman Trophy and the John R. Wooden Award.
Fans can hear Roberts, along with analyst and former UCLA basketball standout Tracy Murray, on AM 570 (KLAC) at each of the Bruins' remaining men's basketball games this season. Fans nationwide can also follow select UCLA games on SIRIUS and XM Satellite Radio.
