UCLA Smashes Season-High Score in Win Over Stanford

The streaking Bruins score 197.950 in dual meet win over Stanford.

Los Angeles, Calif. - The eighth-ranked UCLA Gymnastics team smashed its season-high score in a 197.950-196.625 win over 13th-ranked Stanford in front of a school-record 9,531 fans in Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins (10-1) had 10 scores of 9.9 or higher, including a near perfect 10 from Sadiqua Bynum on floor.

On senior day, seniors Samantha Peszek and Jordan Williams tied for first on vault with Stanford's Elizabeth Price, with all three scoring 9.95. Peszek also captured first place on bars with a 9.9. UCLA also won the other two events, with Danusia Francis and Christine Peng-Peng Lee winning beam with scores of 9.95 and Bynum capturing the floor title with a career-high 9.975. Stanford (5-7-1) gymnast Taylor Rice won the all-around with a 39.350.

The Bruins had team scores of 49.375 or better on every event, earning 49.475 on vault, a season-high-tying 49.375 on uneven bars, 49.475 on balance beam and a season-high 49.625 on floor exercise. All six floor competitors scored 9.85 or higher, including four scores of 9.9 or better from Francis (9.925), Angi Cipra (9.9), Bynum (9.975) and Peszek (9.95).

Following the meet, UCLA honored its three senior gymnasts Peszek, Williams and Ellette Craddock. Peszek tied two career-highs with 9.95s on vault and floor, Williams tied her career-high on vault with a 9.95 and set a new career-best on beam with a 9.875. Craddock performed three exhibition routines, including floor exercise for the first time ever, and she earned an exhibition score of 9.8 on balance beam, tying her season-best.

Also, in a special surprise presentation, the Bruins honored head coach Valorie Kondos Field with a moving video tribute congratulating her on 25 years as UCLA's head coach.
