UCLA Athletics Maintains High APR Marks

Bruin Athletics

Twenty-one UCLA teams have posted four-year APR averages at 970 or higher.

UCLA teams continue to earn high marks in the NCAA's Academic Progress Rates (APR), released today by the NCAA for all Division I sports teams for the four-year period between 2010-11 and 2013-14. Each UCLA sport had four-year APR averages above the 930 score the NCAA uses as a threshold for penalties, with 21 of the 24 (87%) averaging 970 or higher.

Each Bruin team earned rates of at least 965, with the reigning NCAA champion men's water polo earning a perfect score of 1000 and the women's golf team receiving its sixth consecutive perfect mark.

"UCLA student-athletes do not just survive in one of the strongest academic environments in the entire country, they thrive,” said UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero. "Time and again they have proven that hard work and commitment are not simply maxims of sport, they are key tenets to live by. These principles, which our student-athletes have embraced to earn this tremendous achievement, have been engrained in them by their coaches, reinforced by our tremendous staff members in academic support services and will serve them well beyond their time here at UCLA.”

A total of 21 UCLA teams achieved a single-year APR of 970 or better, with 10 – men's soccer, men's tennis, men's indoor track & field, men's volleyball, men's water polo, women's cross country, women's golf, women's gymnastics, women's volleyball and women's water polo - earning perfect marks of 1,000.

The UCLA football team ranked third in the Pac-12 and 25th nationally among FBS schools with a 975 multi-year rate.

A multi-year APR score of 930 is the minimum level of academic success; teams scoring below 930 are ineligible for postseason and subject to additional penalties determined by the NCAA. No UCLA team has ever had a rate lower than the required benchmark since the implementation of the NCAA APR.
