Lowe and Love Compete at Grand Prix

Lowe helped U.S. to undefeated mark, Love is the top point-getter for Canada.

With the FIVB World Grand Prix soon reaching its final destination of Omaha, Neb., a pair of Bruin alums have been representing their respective countries in the event, as Karsta Lowe has helped Team USA to an undefeated record, while Tabi Love has been dominating with Team Canada.

In her first international competition, Lowe leads the Red, White and Blue in kills (59) and points (68) through the first six contests, all victories for the U.S. She also has six blocks and three aces.

Lowe's best match came in the first round of pool play against the host team from Turkey, as she led the U.S. with 23 points and 22 kills. In the second round of pool play in Kaliningrad, Russia, Lowe tied for the team lead with 12 points (nine kills) versus the host nation and then helped Team USA to its sixth-straight win on Sunday versus Serbia with 19 points (17 kills).

From Russia, Lowe and Team USA head to Hong Kong for its final set of pool play matches, facing Japan on Thursday, July 16 (3:30 a.m. PT), Thailand on Friday, July 17 (3:30 a.m. PT) and China on Saturday, July 18 (4:30 a.m. PT). Although it would likely qualify anyway, Team USA will automatically advance to the FIVB World Grand Prix Finals as the host nation. The Finals take place in Omaha, Neb. from July 22-26, as the top five teams from the preliminary rounds join the United States.

In six preliminary matches for Team Canada in Carolina, Puerto Rico and Formosa, Argentina, Love led her squad in points in each contest. Love surpassed the 20-point mark in half of those six contests, including 24 against Bulgaria, 22 versus Argentina and 20 against Poland. For the half-dozen matches, Love totaled 104 points in 24 sets, recording 85 kills (3.54 per set), 14 blocks and five aces.

From the Caribbean to South America, Love and Team Canada return home to Toronto for the 2015 Pan American Games. The preliminary rounds start on Thursday, July 16 and continue through July 26.
