Memorable Moments - Bob Larsen

October 01, 2015 | Cross Country

Relive the most memorable UCLA athletics moments as told by coaches, athletes, alumni, and fans in the Bruin Films series “Memorable Moments”.

Coach Bob Larsen – Hall of Fame coach Bob Larsen had countless memorable moments while at the helm of the UCLA cross country and track & field teams, but it is one moment of his prized pupil Meb Keflezighi that stands out.

Meb had been knocking on the door of an individual championship throughout his All-American cross country career and that time came in 1997 against a packed field full of future Olympians. Meb clocked a 28:54 at the NCAA Championships held on the Furman Cross Country Course to win the title and solidify his ranking amongst the best distance runners in the world – a title he still has yet to relinquish even at the age of 40.
