Busy Weekend for UCLA Women's Tennis

October 12, 2015 | Women's Tennis

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – It was a busy weekend for UCLA women's tennis, as senior Catherine Harrison wrapped up action at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships and three Bruins competed in the Long Beach State Invitational.

After Harrison (No. 22) fell in the first round of main draw singles to Cal's Klara Fabikova (No. 16) last Thursday, she faced Erin Routliffe of Alabama in the first round of the consolation bracket.  Harrison took the first set, 6-0, and led 4-0 in the second before Routliffe retired.  In the next round, Harrison dropped her first set to Colorado's Tina Bokhua, but battled back to take the second and third, 6-0, 6-3.

Harrison's run was cut short in the semifinals, however, when she lost in straights to Mississippi State's Jasmine Lee, who went on to win the consolation final.

In Long Beach, sophomore Kristin Wiley advanced two rounds in the A flight without dropping a set.  Wiley cruised past PSU's Dane Vorster, 6-1, 6-3, and then edged CSUN's Mickey Hsu, 6-4, 7-6 (2).  After taking the first set against LBSU's Maeva Razakasoa in the semis, Wiley fell in the second and third sets.

Both sophomore Maia Magill and freshman Cameron Patterson fell in each of their matches over the weekend.

Next up, the Bruins head to San Diego, Calif., for the ITA/USTA Southwest Regional Championships, to be held Oct. 15-19.
