SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - UCLA senior Tony Parker has been named as one of 20 players to the 2015-16 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award watch list.
Named after Hall of Famer and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Karl Malone, the annual honor in its second year recognizes the top power forwards in NCAA Division I men's college basketball.
Parker, a 6-foot-9 forward for the Bruins from Atlanta, Ga., averaged 11.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game as a junior in 2014-15. Last season, he played in 34 of UCLA's 36 games, making 33 starts. He shot 54.3 percent from the field, averaging 24.6 minutes per game.
Over the last three seasons, Parker has played in 104 games for UCLA, making 42 starts. The former standout at Miller Grove High School in Georgia has scored 726 career points and grabbed 432 rebounds (career averages of 7.0 points and 4.2 rebounds per game). In addition, Parker has blocked 63 shots and recorded 36 steals in his career.
The 20-person watch list currently features 15 seniors, two juniors and three freshmen. Parker is one of three Pac-12 players listed, along with Utah senior Jordan Loveridge and California freshman Ivan Rabb.
By mid-February 2016, the watch list of 20 players will be narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Malone and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the season's award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy's from Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles on April 8, 2016.
