MALIBU, Calif. – The UCLA men's tennis team heads to Malibu to compete in the 2015 USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championships, to be held Oct. 15-19, at Pepperdine University's Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
Sophomore Martin Redlicki leads the Bruins as the No. 4 seed in men's open singles, while sophomore transfer Logan Staggs sits at No. 15. In doubles, Joseph Di Giulio and Karue Sell earned the No. 4 seed.
At the 2014 event, then sophomore Mackenzie McDonald capped off a remarkable five days of action, claiming titles in both singles and doubles. McDonald, last year's No. 1 seed, began his day with a three-set victory over second-seeded Jonny Wang of USC in the singles final. Following a short break, McDonald then teamed with Redlicki to claim the doubles crown, as the second-seeded duo downed third-seeded Di Giulio and Sell, 4-6, 6-1, (11-9).
The USTA/ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players from across the country. More than 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 USTA/ITA Regional Championships around the country.
